A few blocks in Washington can change the organization behind a place or vehicle. Union Station connects Amtrak, MARC, VRE, and Metrorail's Red Line. A hypothetical injury on a train, platform, station approach, sidewalk, or rideshare pickup therefore calls for the exact point and operator, not simply “at Union Station.” Save the trip record, entrance or platform, time, photos, witnesses, and any report number. The station's name does not establish that any particular operator caused an injury.
Washington also contains District, federal, transit, and private spaces close together. That makes early fact gathering especially useful after a park, road, school, or visitor incident. The law firm listings below come from the live directory; their order is not a ranking. Before calling, write a one-page account of what happened and list the entities you know rather than guessing about liability. The consultation checklist can help.
For a hypothetical vehicle or pedestrian collision near Union Station, record the street, direction, signal, vehicle type, driver and company details, witnesses, photos, and report. A station entrance, bus stop, private car, rail service, and nearby business can involve different records. Ask a firm how it would obtain video, dispatch, incident, or vehicle data, and who would handle requests to each operator. If the trip crossed into Maryland or Virginia, flag that at once; the applicable law is not settled by where a firm has its office.
For a delivery or commercial truck, preserve markings and plate information if safe, but ask how the firm would verify who owned, operated, and dispatched it. Do not assume the company name on a vehicle proves the legal employer. The car crash records checklist helps organize the scene account without deciding fault.
Ask which lawyer would lead, who would talk with you day to day, how quickly evidence would be sought, and whether the firm has handled the type of organization involved. For a District agency, school, WMATA, federal site, or cross-border incident, ask for experience with that exact issue. Request written fee and expense terms, including what happens if there is no recovery. Use the comparison worksheet to keep answers comparable.
Listings are provided by the live directory. Their order is not a ranking or recommendation. Confirm services and credentials directly with each firm.

The National Park Service manages the National Mall, while other Washington parks, paths, streets, and facilities can have different operators. For a hypothetical fall on a path or injury at a visitor site, identify the exact point, surface, lighting, signs, weather, witnesses, and who accepted a report. Ask how a lawyer would establish control, maintenance, and any notice requirement for that specific site. An injury on the Mall is not automatically a claim against the District, and an injury at a public place does not itself prove negligence.
At a restaurant, hotel, grocery store, garage, gym, or salon, preserve the receipt or booking, report the condition, and photograph the precise area if safe. Ask how a firm would determine whether a tenant, manager, landlord, or contractor was responsible for the condition and when it arose. Naming a business helps locate records; this page makes no allegation that any named place is unsafe.
After a hypothetical dog bite on a sidewalk or at a park, identify the dog and owner or custodian, witnesses, location, events before the bite, treatment, and animal-control report. D.C. Code § 8-1808 addresses animals at large, dogs on school grounds and public recreation areas, and owner or custodian conduct. The section says lack of knowledge of a dog's vicious propensity alone does not absolve an owner from a negligence finding when a dog injures someone while at large. It does not resolve every bite case. DC Health advises reporting bites and seeking medical care. Ask a lawyer which facts and legal theory matter.
DC Public Schools operates schools throughout the city. For a hypothetical injury during class, sports, recess, transport, or an outside program, keep school messages, reports, witness names, supervision and equipment details, and medical records. Determine whether DCPS, a charter school, a private school, a contractor, or a separate sports group ran the activity. Injury at school does not establish negligence. Ask about the child's privacy and any procedure tied to the actual operator.
D.C. Code § 12-301 lists different periods by type of action, including a three-year residual period and a one-year period for certain named intentional torts. The correct period depends on the claim, accrual, and exceptions; do not calculate it from this page. If a claim seeks unliquidated damages against the District, § 12-309 generally calls for written notice to the Mayor within six months, with specific content and exceptions. A federal entity or separate transit operator is not automatically governed by that District notice rule. Ask promptly which entity is involved and what step preserves a claim.
Questions of shared fault, insurance, and damages also require the specific facts. Preserve contemporaneous photos, messages, reports, and witness accounts rather than trying to assign a percentage yourself. A lawyer can explain which law applies and what evidence is missing.
Does an incident near Union Station automatically involve WMATA? No. Keep the exact point, vehicle or service, and report. Amtrak, commuter rail, Metrorail, private vehicles, and adjacent premises are distinct.
Is a fall on the National Mall a District claim? Not automatically. The National Park Service manages the Mall. Ask who controlled the exact area and which law and notice process apply.
What if a trip began in DC and ended in Virginia or Maryland? Save the route, border crossing, incident point, and all operators. Ask a lawyer to assess the proper law and forum.
What should I save after a dog bite? Identify the dog and owner or custodian, witnesses, events before the bite, location, treatment, and animal-control report.
What should a parent keep after a school incident? Preserve school reports and messages, witnesses, activity and supervision details, and medical records. Identify the actual school or program operator.
Is every Washington injury claim due in three years? No. D.C. Code § 12-301 has different periods, and claims against the District may require earlier notice under § 12-309.
Can a lawyer based outside DC help? Possibly. Confirm licensing for the relevant jurisdiction, local investigation plans, and who would handle the case.
How should I compare fee agreements? Ask about the percentage, case expenses, who advances them, and what you may owe if there is no recovery. Get the terms in writing.

Our mission is to make public information about personal injury law firms easier to find, understand, and verify. We organize factual directory records, practical legal education, and links to official sources so people can begin their research with greater clarity.
Our philosophy is accuracy before promotion, clarity before complexity, and corrections whenever reliable evidence shows that a listing has changed. Directory inclusion is informational and is never presented as a legal recommendation.
